If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. I think this must be German guitarist Axel Rudi Pell’s motto as he returns with his newest album, giving us 11 tracks of pure Pell the way only he can. My only real gripe with his music is that (like AC/DCW.A.S.P. or several other bands) everything he does sounds very similar. Now this can be good or bad depending on where you stand on his music. Maybe there is a comfort in knowing you don’t have to worry about him darting in some new direction because he got a hair up his ass to try a new sound. Now I am a fan of Pell’s work and I purchase all of his releases, but I personally think it would be nice to see a little diversity in his songwriting.

With that being said, this is actually a very strong album. Very well written with a very high production quality as always. And, as always, the real highlight of any Axel Rudi Pell album is the never less than stellar vocals from energetic front man Johnny Gioeli. Gioeli is a rarity in the music business as his vocals seem to have only gotten better with age and he sings his way through the album with the powerful, emotional voice he possesses. His vocals fit perfectly with Pell’s style of songwriting, especially on the ballads where Gioeli truly shines brightest, and as always, Axel given us some on this album that stack up nicely with his large catalogue of ballads.

Axel has been steadily releasing new albums for the past several years and this is actually, as a whole, probably one of the strongest, though every release has some high points and some great songs.

If you are a fan of Pell’s work and have enjoyed his previous music then don’t hesitate on this one. It is the same formula he has used on all of his records and being such, you will find much to enjoy on this one. If you haven’t enjoyed his previous albums then skip this because you will not enjoy it either for the same reasons.
