The beautiful and talented Robin Beck has been around in the music world since the 1970s but not gaining her first real popularity until the song ‘First Time’ was included in a Coca Cola commercial back in the late 1980s. ‘Trouble Or Nothin’ was her second album, released in 1989 and despite several excellent albums since then, this one remains her absolute best.

Married to House Of Lords frontman James Christian, she is a frequent guest on HOL albums these days along with guest vocals on many other projects as well as continuing to release solo albums every few years. Her last one in 2013, ‘Underneath’.

Vocally she is outstanding as she possess one hell of a voice and sounds absolutely stunning on the entire record, and still does to this day.

Half of the record are covers with five out of the ten tracks being original. ‘Hide Your Heart’ is a cover of a Bonnie Tyler song from her 1988 album of the same name. Written by Kiss’s Paul Stanely and writer/producer extraordinaire Desmond Child (who co-wrote almost every song on the record). The song also appeared on Kiss’s  ‘Hot In The Shade’ album released the same year as this record.

‘Don’t Lose Any Sleep’ is a cover of a John Waite song from his 1987 album ‘Rover’s Return’. ‘If You Were A Woman (And I Was A Man)’ is another Bonnie Tyler cover from her 1986 album ‘Secret Dreams And Forbidden Fire’. ‘Save Up All Your Tears’ is yet another Tyler cover, this one coming from her ‘Hide Your Heart’ album also. Cher also covered this song on her 1991 album ‘Love Hurts’. And finally ‘In A Crazy World Like This’ is a Pat Benatar cover from her 1984 album ‘Tropico’.

Beck released a rerecorded, 20th anniversary edition of this album in 2009 with four new tracks added.

Highly recommended. If you enjoy female artists from the 80s like Heart, Bonnie Tyler, Vixen, Saraya, Femme Fatale, Pat Benatar, etc. then check this one out, along with her other releases. A truly gifted singer with a phenomenal voice along with a fantastic group of songs make this a must have for such fans.
