- Angels Of Mercy.
Ralf Scheepers, Mat Sinner and company return with studio album number 11 and they return with an impressive record of melodic metal at it’s best. The band always comes out swinging on their releases but they have hit it clear out of the park this go around.
One of the most impressive things about the record is the seemingly ageless voice of Ralf. At 51 he is still hitting the same ungodly notes he did when he first started out and shows no sign of slowing down. He sounds utterly phenomenal here on every single track.
The band sounds insanely good as always. The talent gathered here is truly unbelievable and they show why they are some of the most well known names in the industry yet again with what is, in my opinion, one of Primal Fear’s best records in many years. An impressive feat considering some of the outstanding albums the bands has been putting out.
The album starts with the hard and heavy ‘Angels Of Mercy’ which is a fantastic opener for the record and features some of Scheepers’ signature screams which, as always, are in no small supply throughout the record. Moving past that we are greeted with eight more hard hitting rockers that are sure to please any fan and are some of the best songs that the band has delivered in years.
Coming in at track 10 is the sole ballad of the record, the stunning ‘The Sky Is Burning’, this beautiful ballad now sits up there with the best ballads of the bands catalogue. A wonderful song with a superb vocal from Ralf.
After the ballad we have one last rocker in ‘Raving Mad’ that finished the record off in a grand way. If you purchase the import then you receive three more tracks, the rockers ‘Final Call’ and ‘Don’t Say You’ve Never Been Warned’ which are worth the price as they are both excellent songs and fit along perfectly with the tone of the album. The third bonus track is a remix of ‘The Sky Is Burning’ where the guitars and drums are taken out of the chorus and replaced with orchestration giving it a softer feel then the album version.
Granted, their music isn’t for everyone, but by this point we all pretty much know what we are getting with a Primal Fear record and whether we want to delve into it or not. For those of us who do appreciate metal then pick this one up without hesitation.
Fans of the band and fans of melodic metal, you cannot go wrong with this one. It is a very strong and very solid release with everything that you already love about Primal Fear, the blazing guitars, fast rythyms and the amazing and screechingly high vocals of Scheepers who has never sounded better. This is melodic metal at it’s best, delivered in the way only Primal Fear can.
A total balls to the wall, kick ass album and very very close to being a perfect record and it is in the top running for metal album of the year for me personally.
Very highly recommended for metal fans.
