Is there anything better than getting a new album, popping it into the player, pushing play and growing more and more ecstatic as each track plays, each passing track just as good or better than the last one? Knowing you have discovered what is sure to become a classic to add to your collection.

What a feeling! I love that.

This is such a fantastic year for music! I know, I know, I say that every year, but I can’t help it. I LOVE this music and every year there are albums being released that are well worth getting excited about, and every year there comes along one or two, sometimes more, albums that are complete and utter surprises.

Scandanavian AOR rockers Perfect Plan are one of those bands for me. I heard one song from these guys before I received the album. I loved that first single, ‘In And Out Of Love’ and immediately was struck by what an astoundingly great voice singer Kent Hilli had. Then I received the record and played it in full and every single track on this album is a knockout!

From the AOR flavorings of ‘In And Out Of Love’ to the hard rocking melodies of ‘Stone Cold Lover’ and ‘Bad City Woman’ to the old school vibes of ‘Heaven In Your Eyes’, there is not one single filler track here. Not even close.

Combining the classic sounds of bands like Survivor and Giant and the more modern melodic rock sounds of bands like Three Lions and Work Of Art, these guys have given us a how-to-guide on how to deliver a perfect AOR record.

The first thing that struck me here was Hilli’s voice. Holy crap this man can sing! I am talking about a voice that can hold up to the likes of the late, great Jimi Jamison. He is, without a doubt, the calling card for this band.

But let’s not take away from the contributions of the rest of the band because Rolf Nordstrom, Leif Ehrin, P.O. Sedin and Fredrik Forsberg are all extremely talented artists that deserve every bit as much of the credit for this masterpiece as their front man. This band has managed to deliver one of the strongest AOR debuts in recent memory and any fan of this genre needs to have this one in their collection.

I can’t say enough about this album, it is simply superb and it has taken it’s place alongside W.E.T., Maverick and Steel City as one of the best records of the year thus far.

Just buy the damn album! You will not be disappointed!

Highest of recommendations.
